Experimenting with my new Raspberry Pi (Timelapses and such)

I bought a RaspberryPi a few weeks ago and have been slowly getting to know it.

Mostly I've been doing timelapses with the PiCamera module I bought at the same time.

I've been using a modified version of Fotosyn's script
I removed the time references so it would run when not connected to the net plus a few other things. One important thing to realise is that the calls to raspistill take 5 seconds by default so the time on that script is actually one every 65 seconds (possibly 66 seconds, I saw a mention that it takes ~1 second extra, haven't had a chance to test this yet).

This is my setup:

New Android Game: That Truck Game

After two months of no programming I finally got around to releasing That Truck Game which has been in development for a while.

It's a one touch game where you drive cargo across a map, hit bumps and you tend to lose said cargo (unless you can catch it again!).

Provides a good amount of amusement for $1 (or your regional equivalent :P ).

Conway's Game of Life

Been doing quite a lot of programming in the last while, I'll post some screenies soon.

But when the more serious programming hasn't been flowing, I've been messing around with Cellular Automaton, specifically Conway's Game of Life.

I uploaded 4 videos to youtube of short clips of it running, the first two aren't really Conway's, due to bugs in my code and the randomised settings.

The later two are proper tho!

I'm pondering posting the code but at the moment it has a dependency to https://github.com/mattdesl/lwjgl-basics so I'll have to look into that.
Also not sure where a good place is to post code + executables to share? Any thoughts?

Real Life

This post deals with real life stuff, so if you don't want to know, move to a different post :)

Some of you may have noticed I've been absent for the last half a year.

Unfortunately my father was diagnosed with brain cancer towards the end of last year.
He passed away in March at the age of 59.

Shortly afterwards my uncle also passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Despite having been there for so much of the last few months, it's only slowly sinking in that he's gone and he's not coming back. It's so easy to think he's just away on one of his work trips.

And so I am now back in Nelson, in my old flat trying to find some sort of routine.

I was fortunate to be at a place in life where I could drop everything to spend the last six months with my parents. There were some tough times, but I was glad to be there for them.

Cancer may be a horrible thing to go through, but at least dad wasn't hit by a bus, you know?

We had some options for how to spend the time we had, even if it wasn't as much time as we had hoped.

I've been putting off this post for a while now, I've wanted to start being a bit more active in my programming but I didn't want to just go back to posting, I wanted to say something explaining why I had been absent.

I feel like I have stuff I'd like to say, but can't form the words at the moment, so this post will have to do.

Hopefully will be posting some programming things shortly, I've been messing around with Conway's Game of Life, and I know some people have requested tutorials for the shadow mapping I did earlier that I might look into.

Productive once more! (Hopefully)

I know it's been a while, real life intervened in a horrible way.

I finally got enough programming done to release a new game, a simple free! (Although ad supported) match three game.

Kinda aiming for a Bejeweled style game with the gem sliding method from the game 10Million.

I plan on releasing PC playable versions as well. (Maybe with, maybe without ads).

It's kinda basic at the moment, but I'll continue adding new features.

Having worked in the past on a match three style game, this control method fixes the problem of not being able to see where you are touching.

Big thanks to the makers of LibGDX for the library.

What I've been working on recently

Here's a clip I just uploaded to youtube.

Still at early stages, no gameplay to it yet, but it's nearly there.

Currently it's just a crappy DK clone, but it's something to build upon.

What it currently features is infinite terrain, AI that can build rooms, minons that do tasks and fight.

The cake is no lie!

Had a wonderful birthday!

Here's a picture of the cake Katie made for me:

It's my character from a game I'm currently playing (Guild Wars 2). Fits in nicely with halloween though!

And tastes wonderful.
